Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of knowledge and practice on safety among grandparents who caring for infants. Methods: The subject of this study was 175 grandparents who are living 3 region in U city and caring for under 4 years old. The data was collected by using self reported questionnaire, and the data was analyzed by using SPSS for windows ver. 17.0 statistics program. Result: The grandparents safety knowledge showed 6.6 of 13 points. The highest of safety knowledge was to prevent eating cleaner for infants and the lowest of safety knowledge was safety lattice space of window. The grandparents safety practice was calculated 33 of 50 points. The best safety practice was managed toxic substance and the worst safety practice was how to use fire extinguisher. The grandparents safety knowledge and safety practice were significant positive correlation. The safety knowledge score of middle school group, no experienced safety accidents group, health group are higher than group of elementary school, experienced safety accidents, poor health. Conclusion: Continuous and systematic safety education is needed to improve safety knowledge and safety practice among grandparents caring for infants and to reduce safety accidents of infants.
